About Gourds
Fine Art Gourds: Some important information about
gourds.
For millennia, gourds have
inspired utillitarian, as well as aesthetic uses. Gourds have been used by many
cultures as vessels for water, seeds, meat, & medicine. They have been used
as masks, and
instruments.
These are hard shelled gourds.
When dried, after being harvested, they develop their hard
shell.
The gourd is where ancient man got his
idea for pottery shapes. We use a method of wood burning called Pyrography to incise the design onto the gourd. They are
painted with a combination of leather dyes, and/or acrylics, then preserved with
a clear enamel finish. Your gourd will last longer than a life time. As
with anything you love, care must be taken. All that is required is to wipe
the surface with a damp cloth.
Gourds are natural, earthy, &
tactile.... hold them near, hear what they have to tell
you...
Enjoy....
